MG's 140 gallon build thread

Figured I would jump on this as well since I just started to set up another tank. This is going to be a 140 gallon in wall display in my basement. At this point all I have done is biult the stud wall where the tank will be. I will post a pic tonight of the location.

So the plans for the tank are as follows.

For in tank flow I am using a Sequence Dart with an Oceans Motions 4-way. The return pump will most likely be a little Giant 3MDQ-SC for now since I have one laying around.

Skimmer is a Deltec AP600 that I am picking up this weekend.

Lighting I am a little undecided. I know I am going to use a single halide (single ended) with a standard luminarc reflector on an icecap ballast. What I cant decide is 250 or 400W. This is going to be mainly a SPS tank. I am planning on putting the light on a motorized lighting rail and have it move front to back over a 10-12 hour period.

I will most likely use a DIY calcium reactor that I will build.

Your going to use only one MH bulb on a 140G tank? What are the tank's dementions?

Looks great! This will be one slick project.

It is 36"x36"x25". The plan is to try to get away with a single bulb. I have seen this work great with a single 400 in a luminarc on a 120 (48x24). The outer edges on the 36" width will have a little lower light. I am planning on having a valey running through the middle so that is where the corals will be the deepest. Again front to back will be on a light mover so the fixture will move 12-18" front to back to cover the 36" depth over the coarse of the day.

You really think it is needed since the tank is only 25" tall?

And some of the first equipment
Sequence Dart and Oceans Motions for closed loop

And I am going to use a Deltec AP600

All of the equipment I got used from fellow reefers, although the Dart was still in shrink wrap and the OM was never used.
