Ok, so the first algae bloom is taking place. Its very minor, but my FSB has a little brown tint to it, along with a couple spots on my window panes, where the flow might not be too high.
As for the Tunze 6045s, it kept feeling like I needed more flow, and I was pretty dissapointed. But I threw the scribbled rabbitfish in my 60 today, and he was flying everyhwere and not even trying to swim. Then I looked at the LMB, and he couldnt stay still on a rock, he kept getting lifted off of it.
The flows so gentle, it feels like a clogged up crappy rio (which yes, I did have in another tank lol). But you look at all the inhabitants, and they seem to catch the current.
I have them in opposite corners pointing in and down, and the Xenia that are in the back upper side of the tank are even feeling the flow. Theyre working absolutely great, and up to date, its the best $96 per powerhead IVe ever spent on this hobby

So sadly after what has happened, the reef build off on my part is coming to a halt after a good 3 weeks. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I'll share some pics of my nice green rocks though lol.

The halt was due to the accident, and new financial responsibilities. The tank will still be up, I just wont have cash to add anything new for at least the next 6-8 months.

So here are some green rocks. Im getting algae everywhere. Its not hairy or anything, but even my FSB is turning green. Im not sure if thats normal or not. I Think I have more than enough flow, and Ive been skimming very wet lately, pulling out about 1litre per day of skimmate.
First algae bloom it didnt look too great here:
And here are pics from today, this is about 2 weeks after the algae bloom pictured above:

I think the problem also might be the photo period. I have the MH on I believe a little less than 10 hours a day. Since I have no coral at all or wont for any time soon, Im thinking of just leaving the MH off all together, and replacing 2 of my 4 actinic T5s with daylight T5s.

That's a great plan, and would probably save you 50 bucks a year in electricity. Good to see you tank with a little life in it, and good luck over the coming days/weeks/months (both with the tank and life)!!

Thanks. I actually switched out the 10k bulb with a 14k bulb. And I have timers so the actinics are not on while the MH is on. So at least Im only running 96w then 250, then back to 96w. That should cut down on the algae, while not looking too dang blue

Ok, so this is getting old. I have (2) Tunze 6045s, along with an MJ1200 in my tank. The MJ1200 is behind my rock stack, blowing towards the ground, to the front of my tank through the tunnell on the botom in the middle of the pic. And I have the 6045s pointing downward, but fish crap is stil building up. But if I hae them pointing downwards, I dont get any flow to my rocks, or where the coral should be on the roks.
What am I doing wrong here? This is starting to frusterate me.

So a copy of my other post, I Figured Id update my build thread:
So I got the mod in today: The instructions kinda sucked, but they werent too bad. I started using some parts for other purposes to make it work right, and nice and quiet. So it got a little frusterating at times. Especially since you pay $25 for $5 worth of material, youd think everything would be precut and premeasured, etc. So that part didnt make me too happy.
Once it got up and running though.... HOLY CRAP does this thing put out a ton of flow or what. I wish I would have bought two more of these for the price of my Tunze 6045s. Well, after blowing it on the bottom of the tank for a good 45 seconds, I Can see whyI had algae growing. There was so much junk in the small crevies of my FSB, that I couldnt see. It actually pushed most of the crap up over the overflow, and there is one swirly spot on the rear left corner of the tank, which should make siphoning easy. This was probably the best $25 or whatever Ive spent yet...

So with the (2) 6045s and the modded MJ1200 I have an estimated 4778 GPH. So I think I have enough flow for some SPS now. Now I just need some frags, and I can put the 10k bulbs back in. I finally got the MJ mod to stop clacking and vibrating, so now its working great. I think theyre definitely more worth the cash than the 6045s, wish I woulda had 3 of thse instead of 2 and 1.

I forget, Jfiip, did you modify the Tunze. Apparently you can substantially increase their flow by cutting out the inside plastic that somewhat inhibits the flow behind the propeller. I've never done it, but I've seen a lot of folks recommend it. I think it may have been brought up already...
I made a few maxijet mods myself, but they always required fiddling, which I don't care for. Hopefully some of these pre-fab units work better than my garage skills (or entire lack thereof). Good luck though, seems like you're on your way!

I didnt know you could mod the 6045s. I know you can mod the 6025s though. Thats interesting, I'll have to give it a try. And as for the mods, youre right, it didnt come out as quick, easy, and clean as I thought. I had to kinda change the way it was assembled myself to get it to work properly without "clacking" and being loud.
Normally this wouldnt be a worthy picture, but after having my MJ1200mod WORKING for a day, this is what I got in about 30 hours time, if even that:
And thats after skimming normal, not too wet or too dry. Im thinking I should keep it skimming wet for the next couple days, and that'll do a huge water change for me.

Ah, that's rewarding, huh? Something working beyond expectations! Congrats, I hope it keeps up!
