beach bum's 55g project

well, found this one day before the close...

the tank is a 55g truvu acrylic, built in overflow. It is currently sitting on a stand for a 135g and the plumbing was done to just get it up and running. Now I plan on styling it out as best I can for a focus on anemones and their like - zoos, discosomas, ricordeas, etc.. If plans change it will still contain the latter, but might also decide I would prefer some SPS (since I have a good connection in town for nice healthy rare stuff and good advice).

My next three steps (in no particular order) are 1) custom stand and hood build 2) new sump design and build 3) lighting choices and implementation. Also plan to redisgn tank flow and choose fishie livestock - I plan to have (as always) an aggressive reef, but with a tank this small it is hard to do properly.

current inhabitant are about 50lbs of mix fiji, haitian, and MI live rock. about 35 astreas, 1 harlequin (striped) serpent star, two bright red brittle stars, 2 gbtas, 1 small colony of brown polyps, and a 15" fimbriated moray (!)

will add pics soon, and am praying for a fun and error-free build this time. cheers!!!!

chris

just took a couple pictures today. tank is looking better and better - the contest will be mine.... muwhahahahahaha.... only 11.5 months to go!

I bought a $25 seio from a fellow reefer and he threw in three freebie frags... how nice gsp's, torch, and a Tyree LE green polyped toadstool frag (dinky about the size of half a nickel).

and the dinky(!) Tyree toadstool in the middle, rubberbanded around a snail shell.

this is the visual progression thus far, from the original 25g to the new 55g for the contest, and today with the new little frags, the split anemone, and an extra 130w of pc added:

A few updated pics, sorry I neglected this thread, will update specs and plans shortly.

the fish will end up going in one of my larger tanks, but I like aggressive reefs - so that is what I got. Got a little tired of the eel because the tank looked empty all the time. So now I have a 2.25" clown triggerfish and a 1.5" lyretail grouper

also in the process of changing lights. so the above pics are temporary T5's, not bright enough to add corals yet. I removed the anemones for this reason, they did not die and in fact were quite healthy, but I was uncomfortable with the lighting.

will begin compiling list of corals to add once the lights come in in one week.
