another idea I am going to try, and any input on this would be appreciated. I am putting the sump up on cinder blocks so that the water will naturally flow out of the bulkhead into the pump, to aviod ever having to prime the pump. My thought is I would like to have the pump about 4 feet away from the sump. I would like to just angle the pipe leading to it down, so that the pump can go flush to the wall, and shoot straight up from there, then through the wall and into the tank. Everyone let me know if you can think of any potential problems with this.

i dont see much wrong withh that, make sure you have a shut off valve.
since the pump will be lower then the water, you may not have as much air trapped if any. you may still have to bleed the lines the frist time

last part of the stand is being laid on as we type, and the tank will go in place.... then we will go to bed. Pics will be up within a couple days. (Lots of plumbing work and holes to cut this weekend, so no promises as to when exactly they will be posted

Ok, too wiped out to plumb today, so here are some pics of the construction of the stand, canopy, and of everything in place.

stand:

canopy work:

notice the exhaust fan in the corner:

Finally the stand and canopy are in place:

And just to tease ourselves... the tank is here!

The white paint on everything is just sealer. Once the "shell" is done for the stand and the canopy, you wont see any of it, but this way everything is waterproof.

You've come a long way fast! I can't wait to see it.

Wow, looking good Mary! This has been going along pretty darn fast! Just curious but how are you going to access the inside of the tank? Are there going to be opening doors , or just go through the hood?

The entire "face" of the canopy will be removable so I will just reach over the frame you see in the pics. The best part is that the frame for the canopy is strong enough to hang from, so if and when I need to get into the back of the tank, I can put my weight on the frame, and not have any added weight on the tank itself

Next move will be plumbing, and then the fun of figuring out how we are going to make our magical lighting system a reality...

It all sounds like a lot of work, but its the work that makes this hobby fun, at least for the die hards anyways.

Well, as fun as the planning has been, I am sooo glad the tank is finally in place. The whole reason for doing everything the way we did, is because I wanted my living room back, and I wanted to simplify the maintenance as much as possible. Wether or not I succeeded, we will see
