What I wanted one for was to get away from test kits. I have a hard time matching colors. With a pH meter, I can just read it and know instantly what the pH is. I would use it on several tanks, more for testing, than trying to maintain a particular pH. Then, if I see a change (other than the normal day/night swings), then I know to start looking for the problem.

It is just one more thing I think would make it easier on me being new to the hobby.

What the heck, I went ahead and just bought one of the handheld ones like Jnicho bought. I figured for $26 I couldn't really go wrong. It comes with calibration solution and extra batteries, so I will see how it goes.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

BTW...I also picked up an inexpensive TDS meter off eBay...again, so far very happy with it.

Lastly, I ordered a salinity meter...the jury is still out on this one...it seems to work, but it is rather finicky.

Sure Randy, here you go: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...TODAY.m238.lVI

It looks like there are plenty of them out there so you should not have a problem finding one at the same price point. Good luck!

That is too freaky, as you must have been reading my mind. Right after I bought the PH meter I started looking at the TDS ones. I will probably snag one of those in two weeks or so. Right now I really need to save my money for the frag clinic I am going to on February 23rd.

thats a decent tds meter. HM digital makes good stuff.

You can buy one step up from that for $35 after shipping or a couple steps up from that(both handheld) for $60 shipped directly from spectrapure
