I see, I had mis-understood, thanks for clairifying. That is interesting that you are raising the ORP with just the skimmer. With an ASM, I don't know if I could adjust it in any way that would adjust the ORP that much.

the more the flow through the sump equals the processing flow of the skimmer the easier it is to control the clearity of the water using the skimmer.

i also have a BB tank, so i am not fighting the bacterial mass in the sand bed. any change i do to the skimmer is almost immediately seen on the ORP meter. i do not need to wait for the sand bed to flux in response to the nutrient level change in the water column due to the change in skimming.
