Do It Youself Co2 Gas Bubbles

Sugar and yeast in a water bottle will provide months of CO2 gas bubbles

Yep,.. I do. You can't use this for a CO2 reactor because there's no way to control it but I've used these for quite some time on my Planted tanks for CO2 injection.

The basic idea is to give yeast a food sourse (shugar) and the biproducts are an undrinkable form of achohal and CO2.

They can be dangrous,.. if plugged up they will eventually explode,. it's not unheard of so don't let it clog.

Basically you take a 2 leiter bottle,.. put 2 cups of shugar in it,.. put in (I think) 1 TSP of yeast (brewers yeast is best) but regular cooking yeast works,.. then fill the bottle to the top of the label with warm water.

In a few hours it starts making CO2,.. I had one tank with 2 of these,.. I replaced 1 every two weeks,.. they produce allot at first,.. then taper off to almost nothing at the end of about a month. The achohal level in the container eventually kills the yeast.

Whiskey

Oh,.. Sorry, didn't see your reply.

The Tubing goes into a CO2 reactor of some discription,.. some people use external ones, but it's easyst to put it into the intake of a PH or canister filter to chop up the bubbles and desolve them with the water. A word of warning here,... never let the pump pull from the bottle,.. it can colapse the bottle and suck the liquid in.

The tubing goes in the cap, and you set it right side up,.. You DON"T want the liquid going into the tank,.. this is one of the biggest problems with these,.. that liquid will crash your tank.

Fatal is CO2 poisining,.. most people with FWP tanks try and max out at 30 PPM with an unstable system like these tend to be,.. if you had a PH controller and pressurized CO2 injection you could push that a touch higher.

You caculate your CO2 consentration by knowing your Alk and PH.

Again,.. this is for FRESH WATER planted tanks,.. not for salt water use lol.

Whiskey

Sounds like a great idea, but when you consider the risk. I'd rather buy a reactor. Thanks
