CO2 diffuser

Could someone please explain to me how a CO2 diffuser works and how beneficial they are to a smallish tank (50 GAL) and whether its worth getting one to start off with

Cheers

Well, it basically diffuses co2 into the water to lower pH. Here is one. Along with a diffuser a co2 tank and regulator are also required.

The only way a diffuser alone is benificial is if your pH is too high.

Besides just using a co2 diffuser, a calcium reactor can be used on reef tanks, this way you are lowering your pH at the same time maintaining calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium.

those are mainly used in planted tanks, correct? not sure they would be a good idea in a SW aquarium.

is CO2 itself useful in a sw tank ? aren't there other, easier ways to control ph? (like, are you kalking heavily?)

i'm just asking, cause with all the issues i did have with my salt tank, ph was never one of them somehow.

I was looking at using just a diffuser and co2 in my tank, since my pH has been topping out at 2.7 lately (I added 3 4"+ clams to a 20g ). I decided just to add a calcium reactor, because I mind as well add ca and alk at the same time.

I was trying to maintain my pH with vinegar, but since that breaks down into sugar, I decided that would be a bad idea to do long term.
