Would this be a good sump for my 120 gal. reef tank and could it be turned into a refugium (or should it for that matter)?

Thanks,

Eric

Your reply doesn't sound real positive, should I look for something else or make my own fuge out of a 40 gal. breeder? Should I use a fuge?

A fuge depends on your set up and may be a very positive investment, or it can become a trap for detritus and just another point for waste processing.

But lets focus on the sump. With what is there, it may work OK for a sump with a nice skimmer compartment, but the return section is really shallow. I wouldn't plumb a skimmer (as pictured in the photo) back to the return section like that as it *could* be a recipe for microbubbles.

Ultimately it could work and work well, or not be so great depending on how much you want to tweak it and the most important factor; how much will it cost. The breeder may be more cost efficient in the long run.
