Sump design

i Am going to be building my own sump which will be a 20 gal for my 55 gal tank. the sump will be 24" long x16"'H x12"d. here is a rough design i drew up. its not very good cause my scanner stinks but i hope you can see it. any comments or suggestions would be great. also what size pvc pipe should i run from the overflow on the tank and from the return pipe to the tank>?

How much water are you planning on running through the sump? As in what is the GMP of the return pump that you plan to use? That will give you an idea of how big you want the pvc pipe to be. Keep in mind that a 1 inch pvc has a max of 600 gmp and bends in the pvc will reduce the gmp amount. Hope this helps.
