skimmer help please

I had my protein skimmer shut off for a while while I was treating my tank for red velvet algae. I did a water change last week and left the skimmer off. I turned it on yesterday monring and now still I have lots of white particals still floating in my tank? Any ideas on what is happening?

Any idea what the particles are? Sand, maybe?

I am not sure what it is. I think they are too light to be sand though

Does it appear to be affecting the livestock?

I guess I would give it a few more days and see if there is any improvement.

just a note. red velvet algae is actually a bacteria. depending on what you used to kill it you may have also killed off all of the beneficial bacteria in your tank. your tank could be starting up another cycle.

more likely than not the cyano will be back in just a few weeks. have you been siphoning out the detritus whenever you do water changes? what kind of skimmer do you have?

I used chem clean to get rid of it, however I also added marine max to the tank which is a bacteria and antioxident to help it along. I don't think it is cycling seeing everyone is healthy in the tank. What I am most concerned with is the whit stuff still floating around. It does not do this when the skimmer is off. I have a corallife super skimmer.

Everyone in the tank is good. And yes I always vaccum the detritus when I do a water change. I know this sounds so bizzare

Problem solved!! They were air bubbles. I didn't realize I had the output directly on top of the pump. Ok I know this was a DUH situation!
