Hey Guys & Gals I need a bit of advice!
I need a
protien skimmer for a 75 gallon tank. I have built a few in the past, but I want to move to a commercial design. I have a somewhat unique situation in that this is a (dare I say it?) bait tank. The population densities fluxuate from sparse to rather extreme (several dozen minnows to 30+ pounds of minnows) several times a week. The most recent rendition I built utilized a 10 gallon main chamber and two 1100 gph pumps in combination with a commercial air pump. I think this may have been a bit of an over-kill, and I am looking at smaller-more efficient commercial units. Noise is NOT an issue.
My Installation is best suited for a flow through system with in-line pumps and overflow (via tubing) into the main tank. I realize this is not a typical aquarium configuration; however, I am hoping that you all might have some reccomendations. While cost is always a factor, this is not a hobby for me, and having a low-maintence high-dependability unit is critical. Space limitations are 28in height x 20in
square foot print. I have several continuous duty mag drive pumps in the 900-1100 gph sizes and a fairly high volume commercial air pump (sweetwater). I am completely unconcerned about water usage, removing the organic solids is of paramount importance. Water Salinity fluctuates fairly dramatically.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
