Need help choosing a skimmer
Hi everyone,
I need to purchase another skimmer for my 150gal.
I ordered an AquaC -EV120 and am going to send it back.
What skimmer would you recommend ? The bioload is heavy right now as it is a trigger tank. I am going to convert it to a reef as soon as I can get the correct lighting.
Thanks for any suggestions!
p.s. It needs to come from marinedepot.com

I would use the marine depot credit for lighting and buy a MSX 250 from MarineSolutions.... just my opinion though...
What's your budget?

skimmer needed for 150gal
I have to purchase the skimmer from Marinedepo .......of the skimmers they sell which would you recommend. I would like to stay around $500.00 that includes the pump to run it.
I ordered an Eheim 1260 pump at the same time I ordered the AquaC EV 120 . I can use that or order a different one.
Thanks

I would keep the Eheim to use as a return pump (you just don't get a better pump)
I would probably go with the Vertex in that price range, probably the IN 250 or 280

Here I go again asking a dumb question again....you would replace the pump in the sump now with the Eheim and not use it on the skimmer? The Vertex does come with its own pump.
My son turned off the pump that is in the sump now one time. Then he had to take it apart two times before he could get it running again. My biggest fear is that the pump will stop and I will not be able to get it running again. I am not sure of the brand name.

The pump that comes w/ the vertex should be fine. It has a 1 yr guarantee, so if you have any problems you can get it replaced. I turn my vertex off at least 2 times/day and have not had any problems restarting in the 6 months I've had it running.

Also, put the 1260 in the sump, like Fat Tony suggested and replace the one that wouldn't start. The eheim is a lot better.

Will do. You guys are great!!! Thanks so much for your time and the wonderful advice!!!!
I might just make it after all with the 150 as a reef. I will change it as soon as I can get all the correct equipment. I am feeling better about trying with all the help I am getting....
Thanks again!!!

because there are far better skimmers for the same or less money out there than the outdated Aqua C.
