just bought a Coralife 9watt UV

i run a cascade 1500 canister filter, my question is should i connect the UV to the return from the canister or is that too much flow for the UV. Or how do you all run them?

thanks
matt

my filter has a flow rating of 315 and most say the UV needs 100-200 but they recommend a pre fliter for debris. any thoughts?

I have one that I use every once in a while and I just hook a MJ 600 to it. You want slower flow through the tube so that the water is exposed to the UV light for as long as possible so it has time to kill the single cell organisms.

I would think that your cannister flow might be too much, but then again it would act as a pre-filter and be guaranteed to see all of the water in your system if that is the only filter you have.

With that said, I might be willing to try it inline with the cannister, but only if you can do it in such a way that it is easily reversed in case you do not get the desired results.

HTH and good luck with it.

Not a problem, you may even be able to get by using a Maxi Jet 600 which would be even cheaper for your budget.
