Good skimmer for 125 gal???

Well I think my proclear 250 w/ rio 2500 pump has gone caput after 5 years. It has been releasing tons of tiny bubbles into the tank for over a month now and I have tried everything...but cannot get it to stop.

I have been trying to decide on a new skimmer and would like some feedback to make a good choice. I would like one that pushes more than 700 gph (preferably not another rio pump..too noisy), and one that will handle over a 250 gallon tank, but I have limited space in my sump (11 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 24 inches high).

I have heard good things about mag pumps, I prefer venturi models because that is what I am used to. But overall I just want a GOOD SKIMMER and every ad says "there's is the best" HELP PLEASE!

Thanks in advance for any advice? I am not concerned about price, just quality. Also I am not concerned about overskimming because this is a FOWLER not a Reef tank, and has large fish with lottsa waste.

i would really look into the MRC skimmer. www.myreefcreations.com very powerfull skimmers. they are better rated also for your tank. when it is listed it can do a 250g system than it prolly will. most of the other skimmers out there are overrated by a good margin.

I would second the MRC skimmers. The ASM's G4+ or G4x would be great but you don't have room inyour sump. You'll have a hard time (impossible) getting a good one to fit in there!

I also recomend the MRC skimmers. Not only are they well made, and highly efficient, they are expandable. With other skimmers you need to get another one. If you want mor e power you need to get another one. With the MR-C skimmers you simply add on. They are excellent skimmers

Never mind... I found the ASM skimmers.

Sounds like every one really likes the MRC. It sounds like a really good skimmer...I did some online research last night. I think that might be the route I go with then. Thank you all so much for your informed advice!! I really appreciate it!

Good questions.

Pretty sure you may just want a bigger pump!

I will see what the MRC guys have to say!

Yes you can run it on one pump. I have a PCX55 and may upgrade to a PCX 70. Andy at MRC says one pump seems to actually work better than two. Make sure you get a pressure rated pump as the submersables dont do the job.
