Euro-Reef rs250

Hey guys,

I have a problem I just setup my 120 gallon tank and I have noise issues. I have 55 gallon sump. My Brand new euro-reef rs250 is really loud and I can't get it to quiet down. It's a vibration that is making the noise and have no clue how to make it quiet like it's really loud. What materials can I buy to put inside the sump to cusion the pump and skimmer? as well I have a quite1one 4000 pump and inch and 1/2 piping but I can't get it to balance out it will flood my tank and I don't want ot be using a ball valve to reduce flow. Should I be using a lower gph? I have it at 990 gph right now I guess well that's the max on the return pump. As well this thing makes lots of noise too. ARG!!! noise help please

Ok, which pump is it that is causing the noise? Have you unplugged them one my one to see? the RS250 is a great skimmer and although not a silent one, it's not that loud. If it's one of the skimmer pumps, contact ER...

As far as the return goes, the quiet one, is likely a little loud and maybe a tad too much for your tank. 3 to 5 times the system volume on the return would make 600 max. this pump might be the cause of the noise. Many people use a mouse pad under the pump. I've found it just as easy to use hard filter mesh cut in small square and glued to the bottom of the pumps to work fine as a coushin.

Okay, so I know euro reef is a great skimmer but the vibration is coming from both the pumps. I will be going with a smaller return pump tommorow. And as far as the ER goes I know for that it is the one making the huge noise like really huge it's the rs250 no idea which pump it is but I know it's the biggest one they have. And for a skimmer that costs 500+ you'd think they would have included some sort of pad to dampen the noise. I still like the skimmer itself it's just super loud that's all. So you think I could use a mouse pad under that one too? Will it leak any toxins into my tank?

Others have used it (the mouse pad) with no problems. Like I said I'm running a modded ER right now and I took a thick filter pad and superglued 1" squares to the bottom and it worked perfectly. I like this idea better than putting a mouse pad in the water I've also seen people used dabs of silicone to make little feet for the pumps.

Also, throttling the pump you have back with a ball valve won't hurt the pump. No sense of replacing it if you don't have to right now It's just like adding a little more head. And your not terribly over the 3-5X, so i would just back it off so that your display doesn't overflow. Unless the nise level on that pump is too loud also.

Good Luck!

Thanks I'll just pick up some filter pads tommorow and stuff them i my sump to cushion the ER as for the pump I only bought it this week so I can just dry it out and exchange it cause it's a bit powerful like I said I'll move down to something like 360-450 gal per hour. instead onf 990. Thanks for the advice I hope this all works out I really want it to start. Oh where should I have the foam level in my ER? like where on the body I'm new to this thing so please be specific

Well mine is an old, and I mean old 8-3 with a healivy modded genx6000 nw... I've never had one of the newer ones. I've read that people set it just above the unilock where the collection cup comes of and then adjust from there depending on whether they want wet or dryer skimmate. I'll let someone else chime in to confirm this though. I have to set mine about 2" below the union where the cup comes off, but I'm puling about 30lpm.
