A skimmer is helpful in keeping the nastys out but the Nano cubes are not designed to have one. Frequent water changes will be much easier
I run my 24g JBJ nano cube skimmerless

the fisson skimmer is not worth it If thats the one you saw there are a couple other nano skimmers I'm not familar with them though. No HOB skimmer will work with the Nano cube hood in place

as long as you are able to siphon out detritus easily and regularly you do not need a skimmer.
