Question

Break-in Period for New Skimmers

I was wondering about how new skimmers go through a "break-in" period where they go nuts foaming crazily. -- What exactly is happening there? What exactly is getting "broke in"? The acrylic or plastic body of the skimmer?

Typical break in for max effeciency is around a week.

Basically the new skimmer has oils and mold releases on it from production! Saltwater will remove these fairly quick!

And Welcome!

I agree with Sara. My protein skimmer take 3 weeks to break in and running stable. Just keep your water level low to avoid overflow.

My HOB skimmer took nearly 3 weeks before the micro bubbles went away and the junk started to pile up. You`ll be fine
