Best in sump protein skimmer around $300 for my 125 gallon tank????
Hi I am looking for advise on a in sump protein skimmer for about $300. I have a 125 gallon tank and don't know what to buy???? There are to many to choose from. I wan't to start adding corals to my tank. As of now I only have 6 fish and a hand full of corals in my tank. My tank is about 6 years old. Thanks Wes

Octopus Extreme 200, or the MSX version. My system is 130gal and the X200 rocks, I paid $300 even for mine. The only flaw is the Sicce pump on mine sometimes has restart issues, I need to bump the intake to get it started 20% of the time. Still the best sub $300 skimmer avail, IMO.

FWIW, this is only an issue when using the mesh'd impeller wheel over the stock needlewheel.
The MSX line (available at MarineSolutions) gets my vote. The MSX has subtle differences over the Octopus brand , and makes it just a little better.

Marine Solutions also came out with a new reducer for the sicce which allows similar numbers with the PW as the mesh wheel without the headaches A darn good idea in my opinion

Nope, unfortunately those are an ATB product... But here is a post from Jeff on another board...
We have been busy working on a new reducer for the Sicce pumps. Hooked up to an MSX200 we went from 28 SCFH to 35 SCFH! This is quite an improvement.
This new reducer is a simple snap-in design, anyone can do it.
All new skimmers using a Sicce pump will be receiving these new reducers.

It causes the venturi to be more efficient at drawing in air into the pump to mix with the water.
Hop, I was reading that on the other forum a couple weeks ago, but I had forgotten about it. I'm gonna order one today. Can you shoot me the link to that other thread so I can read the instructions on installing it into the old gen pumps again?

I do run the stock impeller, the mesh wheel was absolutely unworkable for me. Maybe it's just me and skimmers.

really. How is your pump oriented? Is it with the volute vertical or horizontal? FWIW, the Sicce pumps like to be run horizontal from my experience with them.
