Sump problems grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Thanks for reading

Ever since I installed my sump I have been having trouble getting it set just right. I will get it to where I think it is good, but as water evaporates out of my sump the water level of the display tank goes down. When I fill back up the sump the display fills back up and I have to mess with the valve again on the return line. This is like a every other day job. From what I read and how I understand it the water level in the display tank should not fluctuate when water is added to the sump like that?

When I was at my LFS the other day the sales guy was telling me that there is a happy middle between noise and no noise. He said it sounds like I am moving too much water to the display. From what he made it sound I want the water to fill up my overflow box slower that it is. Normally I run my overflow box (hang on style) running filled with water so it is silent. Should I try and slow the water down more to have less water in the overflow????? What about changing the plumbing on the supply line from my display to the basement to a larger pipe? Right now both lines are 1"
I just got an overflow box from glass holes and on their box they have 1.5" pvc feeding the sump and 3/4" feeding the supply. I really wish I would have put one of these on my corner tank! Live and learn I guess!

Here is my setup

92 gallon corner tank in the living room
1 55 gallon sump in the basement
1 55 gallon refugium in the basement
1 blue line 70 return pump
all plumbing is 1" pvc

Thanks for the help!!!!

Do you have an auto top off in the sump?

If power fails, does your DT level @ the height of the drain/overflow?

I don't understand how your DT can vary while pump is running and drain/overflow is emptying DT into sump/fuge.

Ok just so I have this right:

You have a HOB overflow in your tank and sump in the basement?

The water level in your tank should never me able to drop below the level of the HOB overflow. I like to set the height over flow in the tank to about 1" under the rim of the tank. If it's a single drain overflow they are only rated for about 600gph. make sure your pump is pushing no more than that at head height.

As doe the sump level a ATO will take care of that problem Look at the Tunze osmolator under $200 and about the most reliable.

The overflow wier height should determine the operating level in the display tank. If you are raising the level much above that height you either have too much flow or not enough overflow.

The overflow should flow unrestricted and it is the return pump that determines the flow rate. If the retrun rate is too much the overflow will not keep up and the display level will rise which you do not want. Sounds like you need a larger overflow or larger less restricted overflow plumbing so the level remains constant.

I agree on a ATO system to maintain sump levels but suggest the Spectrapure UPLC-II over the Tunze.
