Koralia good for wave maker?
I'm looking to set up 4 powerheads on timers, was looking at Hydor Koralias 4's, anyone know if they will hold up to the constant on/off?
if not what powerhead will.
4 powerheads on one end of a 150 gal (60" long).
upper left and upper right on,
then,
upper right and lower right,
then,
lower right and lower left,
then,
lower left and upper left,
REPEAT,
30 minute cycle on each head....staggered 15 apart.
any thoughts
thanks,

I have the same tank although I think mine is the 72" long one. I am using two Tunze pumps with the controller. A little pricey but worth it. The controller does all that stuff for you and when you have a power outage you may have to reset all your timers.

Koralia's are noisy on start up unless you mod them.

Un-modified maxi-jets will handle a constant on/off cycle much better than any propeller type powerhead. I've ruined a couple of Koralias and some MJ mods with my timer experiments.
Have you considered using a SCWD? I just set one up, it's about the same as two powerheads going on and off.

The 1-4s are not recommended for timers. The 5-8s are.

I hear the ecco mods on the MJs are pretty quiet on a WM. The other mods are not on the Mj... Maybe someone running a set can verify?

I use K3's on a RedSea wavemaker for past year.
They are noisey but so far no problems.
I tried both Eco-Mod and Algae-Free Maxi-Jet mod kits, both are noisey on timers, and the impellers do not last more than 6-8 months before wearing out.
If you have them on continually the Modified Maxi-Jets hold up much longer.

Average cost of a new K4 is about $60 and he wants 4 of them. So, thats $240.
He wants to use timers and those will probably run $30 for 4 of them el cheapo units.
So you are already spending $270 for a noisy wave system and the pumps might not last because of the ware and tear and does not have half the capabilities that a vortech has and you have 4 bulky pumps in you tank with a bunch of nasty looking chords. Spend the extra $150 and get a vortech. You will be much happier. This is a pay to play sport.

This is correct, i was going to pick up a couple Koralias at my LFS and told the owner i was gonna put em on a wavemaker and he strongly suggested against it, said hes tried to moddify em but the propeller inside would still rattle.
He suggested Maxi-jets and actualy i just got done installing them not 10 minutes ago and not a peep from either of em.
