Black Pvc Pipe????

Does anyone know where to get BLACK PVC pipe?

I am going to plumb a spray bar as part of my returns on my build. Therefore the pvc will be in the display tank, and I would prefer to have the black pipe over the white.

I know I read some time ago, on another forum, that you can actually spray paint the pipe with a certain type of paint. Are there spray paints that would be safe once curred, for the inside of a reef tank?

Black Krylon Fusion Paint, paint it black and call it a day. You can get black pipe in most sprinkler sections of home improvement stores but its small (typically 1/2") and is expensive. Simply use regular PVC pipe, Krylon Fusion Paint, and be done with it.

Black paint or black PVC? Either is SW safe.

How about the gray PVC pipe that is used for electrical work? It comes in many of the same sizes as white.

In the "old days" I used to install in-ground pools. This was just about the time PVC became popular, we used to replace alot of Polyethylene pipe or "black poly" pipe. Its almost the same as a PVC, but it dosen't get glued.

Polyethylene Tubing: Black "poly pipe" is flexible irrigation pipe which comes in rolls in sizes from 1/2" to 2", although the great majority of applications use 1/2" or 3/4". Advantages include light weight, flexibility and easy no-glue fittings. The main drawback is that the pipe is simply not as rugged as PVC, and poly systems generally will not last as long. It should not be used for lawn sprinkler heads; it is best used for bubblers, agriculture and drip irrigation. Contractors like it because it can be "pulled" or plowed easily and is much less labor intensive to install.

Been running my reef for quite a while now with spraybars that were painted black with fusion Once dry, it is completely inert!

U.S. Plastic Corporation has a selection of black PVC pipe and fittings as well at the regular white PVC, also clear PVC.

Well black pipe isn't for human consumption (just waste lines) so I'd think it wouldn't be good for our reefs.

The black pipe in home improvement stores isnt PVC, its ABS and not rated for potable water use. Its not recomended for our tanks from all that Ive heard.
Someone mentioned US Plastics, check em out and be SURE its PVC not ABS. Then break out the wallet and PAY! The fusion is safe and widely used in our hobby.

A very common myth. As false as but that doesn't stop it being spread.

The black and clear PVC pipe from US Plastics is what I mentioned. It is PVC.

However ABS is non-toxic. It is used in waste lines because it is unaffected by common household chemicals such as drain cleaners, ammonia, bowl cleaners, and cleansers. Plastic Pipe and Fittings Assoc. is a good source of information.

Krylon Fusion has been used safely. It has not been tested for marine use, but is similar in formulation to products that have passed such a test. It sticks to most plastics if well cleaned. Some people have reported flaking but that may be due to improper cleaning, or an incompatible plastic product. It might stick to some problem plastics if they were primed with purple primer first.

You can buy the ABS pipe at Lowes and Home Depot might carry it as well. I have used it for Air Intakes on cars and other items due to its thermal capacities. It will be perfectly fine to use in an aquarium. Unfortunately, I have only seen ABS plastic in diameters too large for a spraybar when shopping at Lowes.
