best pump out there.

I am setting up a 120 gallon tank with a 50 gallon breeder tank for a sump. My g4plus uses a sedra 9000. My question is what's the best choice out there for recirculating pump. I use to use a little giant.

not sure for that application, but the best pumps out there are the Velocity series of pumps by Blue-Line.

not sure about needle wheel pumps. i think there are only 2 out there. Rio and Sedra. you can modify most impellors to be needle wheel, but i really hate to see people ruin perfectly good pumps that way.

Your SEDRA is the recirculating pump. You just need to add a small feed pump.....stay with the SEDRA (good pump).

if your talking about a return pump, i recomend the ocean runner pumps by aqua medic...they are very quiet and reliable. I used the ocean runner 6500 on my 120, it pushed out 1625gph. It was a bit strong, so if you go this route, get a smaller one.

what size are your overflows? this determins the maximum amount of flow the sump can handle.

i still think the Velocity T series of pumps is the best out there.

I have a 1" overflow pipe. I could make it bigger if needed. I am still putting things together so the time for changing things is now.

http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=536 do you mean this one geoff? Also on a previous thread you gave me some advice on cls using mag pumps. What do you thing about using a mag 24 or 36 at the bottom of tank and attaching a multi layer pvc splay bar, the spray bar could be used as shelves for the Lr too. I could hind everything under all my Lr. you think that might work good? I'll draw you a pic if you don't know what I am trying to describe to you. Thanks geoff.

is the tank drilled, or do you have a HOB overflow? a 1" drain will only handle about 600gph. these are the pumps i am talking about.

those Mags are pretty big! i would also not burry a Mag under LR. they need to be vinegared regularly or they will seize. the pump will need to be fairly easily removable.

a pic/drawing is always a good thing.

thanks for the tip on the mags. I just talked to my manager at work and I guess he is going to get me the drilled tempered glass that I need. The question now is how many holes and what size to make them. The drain I guess I'll make it 2". I looked at your rebuilding thread geoff. you have 2 1.5 at the top and 2 3/4" at the bottom for your cls returns? and is your cls constant or random flow? I'll try to draw up a sketch and run it by you. Thanks you been very helpful!!!!
