Ball valve damage pump?

Okay, I got the tank and sump filled with water and the magdrive9.5 is pumping back into the tank, but it made alot of noise so I cut the flow down with a ball valve (other then the noise the lifereef over flow box handles the volume easily).

Will resticting the flow for long periods wear the pump out faster?

Thanks.

Another way of not restricting the flow of the pump is to tee the return pipe back to the sump. This way you can adjust the amount of return flow without damaging the pump.

No, you are fine restricting the flow coming out of the pump with a ballvalve. It will not damage or reduce the life of the pump in any way. It is no different than adding a bunch of fittings or height that add head pressure

Do not restrict or put ball valves on the infeed side though

actually if the pressure is too much you will damage the pump, it'd take a fairly restricted outlet, but it can happen, especially if you already have alot of fittings and high head.

True.....i guess i should have said you dont want to near deadhead the pump............but simply cutting the flow back as phishy wants to do will be fine....
