What is the benefit of Hammertone Reflectors?

Do the hammertone reflectors on the MH fixtures create the Glitter lines in the water? If not....what is their benefit over regular smooth reflectors? And if not, what does simulate the glitter lines?.....just water movement at the top of the tank? Thanks in adavance.

It's the light that causes that.

The ripples on the top of the water magnify or spred the point source light from a MH fixture, creating the glitter lines on the bottom of the tank,.. If you want more, make the surface of your tank ripple more

The hammertone reflectors I've always found are not very good, it seems the smooth reflectors like Spyder reflectors, for an inexpensive one, or the Lumanarc for a better, but pricer model out perform them.

This conclusion was reached after I did Lux readings on a few different reflectors I own, and friends owned, there may be a really good hammertone reflector somewhere that I didn't test.
