Tek 8 bulb fixture on a 90 gal

Hi all. I have read many good things on here and just wanted to see if someone had some personal experience with this. I am looking to get the 8 bulb t-5 fixture from Tek. My tank is 18" wide and the fixture is 19". I was just wondering if anyone had this on a 90 gal and how it was working out. Also do you have it hung, or are you using the mounting legs? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TRT Trog! I don't use that particular lighting fixture but do use T5's. I was wondering why you are wanting to use the 8 bulb fixture instead of the 6? Seems like a bit of overkill since you can't even fit all the bulbs over the tank. BTW, I have 5 bulbs over my 90 gallon tank and it's plenty of light already.

I have the 8 bulb on my 150 48"x24"30". I really like it .its mounted to the inside of my canopy on sliders so I can push it out of the way. If I had a 90 i would go with the 6 bulb but thats just me.

Thanks for the input. I was going to use the eight bulb fixture because I want to be able to keep SPS and some clams at any height in the tank. I have not used t5's before and didn't know if the six bulb would be enough. I believe the lights will all fit over the tank, but the fixture itself will hang over, that is why I was asking if anyone had experience with this.

True even though its 19" the lights only cover about 15" of the top. You will prolly get some light that doesn't go into the tank but if you don't mind the look of it then thats ok. As far as corals I keep SPS about 12" down and they grow really well, but I only keep softies at the bottom (30"). Hopefully someone with a SPS and clam tank lit by T5 can chime in.

Thanks for the input. It looks like the 8 bulb does well on the 75 so I bet it will do as well on my 90.
