PC bulb problem...

I haven't gotten my tank set up yet, but I was testing out my lights and one of my 24w PC bulbs got extremely hot, it even melted the zip tie that was kind of clipping it to the plug in. My question is do you suppose that it is just the bulb or could there be something wrong with like something in the rest of the system? Oh yea this is only the 2nd time i've turned them on. Also, the light quickly burned out, so now i'm looking into replacing it, so I'm wondering if I should look into the problem deeper or not?

While they do run pretty warm, I don't think a 24W PC bulb should get hot enough to melt a plastic ziptie. I would check to make sure you have the correct ballast(s) for the bulbs you're using and that's it wired up correctly.

I'm thinking/hoping that it's just the bulb, because there is also a seperate actinic bulb that runs on the same ballast and it works just fine. Also this is an odyssea product so I realize that it is not the highest quality at all, let alone customer service. Anywho, i've decided that I'm going to just buy a new actinic and daylight bulb and hope that they work just fine. If not, sounds like i'm going to buy a new light system. Bleh.

FWIW, there have been lot's of thread and discussions about the Jebo/ Odysea line of products. Many of the stories ended in fires and loss of property.

It is one of several reasons I opted to save a little longer and buy a Tek light instead of going the cheaper route.

My thoughts are cut your loses on that product now, it has already show you what it may become capable of doing. Most of the stories I read involved their MH/PC combo units, but never the less were made by them.

I'm sure some people on here have the product w/o problems, but yours already seems to have issues.

My house and family (tank included) are not worth jeoprodizing with equipment that has a spotty track record.

For the record I have never owned a JEBO/ODYSEA product, nor will I after my readings.......FWIW JMO
