new tank...have questions!!

So I am a newbie at this. I have been running a 14 gal nano bio-cube for about 7 months and just had to get my hands wet! I went out and purchased a 125 gal pre-drilled tank. What kind of lights are going to work best for me?? The tank is 72" x 18" x 22". I wanna go with a full MH fixture with the MH, Actinics, and Moonlight LED's all in one. Will 150 watt MH be ok or should I go with with 250? What color of actinics should I get if I am looking at having a blue tint to the light at all times? And someone told me I should keep it about 6" off the water because I am also running 2 computer fans from each side (not to mention I normally keep my house around 70 degrees). Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I will post pics soon!

Depends on what you want to keep, but 3 250w Mh should be ok.

Outer orbit is a good way to go if you're looking for 24hour lighting. Current actually has an ebay seller login also, they sell returned and referbished units for about half the price. We had a girl in our club get one a few weeks ago she said it looked brand new, power cords hadn't even been unwrapped. As far as lighting, I think you could keep just about everything with 150's but if you intend on going heavily into SPS corals I would look into 250's for sure.

well first off congrats on the tank. a 125 WOW it sure is going to be pretty MH are ok, but they tend to put off a lot of heat. Most corals and the such will do well with T5's and they are cheaper. I use PC's even and my corals do just fine. T5's do not get as hot and the bulbs are cheaper than PC's as well. good luck look forward to seeing pics

Just another fyi, and you probably know this already- if you install fans in your canopy make sure they blow onto the fixture instead of pulling the air out of the canopy. The salt will corrode the fan over time and it won't last nearly as long.
