Question

New 30 gallon that I need lights for

Ok, I got the 30 gallon tank... now I just need to get the lights.

The tank is 25" deep and 30" long. Can I go with a pendant that has flourescent lighting? I'm not really sure if this will be sufficent since the tank is 25" deep. How much wattage should I have? The recommended is 3-5 watts per gallon, right?

I don't want to keep acros or montis but, I do want to keep LPS, soft corals, polyps, zoos, etc. I've heard that to keep healthy zoos, brains, anemones, etc. (at the bottom of the tank), I will need something strong enough to reach the corals there.

This is so confusing to me. Any help/suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

your thinking is correct, except for the anemone. they need high light. why are you shying away from the MH's? a nice single 150w HQI or a 175MH would be a good choice for that tank. they would also have the punch to support an anemone up near the waters surface. it would prolly also be less expensive to run electricity wise than a full flourescent hood of some kind.
