Need advice w/ new T5 lighting fixture

I am upgrading my lighting finally on my 55 gallon reef tank! It's a used ( but I'm so proud!!!! ) T5 fixture that came with 4 54w 6500k Grow bulbs. It also has the blue led's for night. I am upgrading from 40w T8 lamps (4). I have 2 questions...do I need to go ahead and get 2 actinics like it would have come with new or can I use what I've got for awhile and use the leds for extra blue? Also, I'm assuming this is lots more light and I have a few sps....do I "work up to" having them on our regular hours? Thanks for all input!!!

I would recommend changing all the bulbs out. 6500K is awefully low kelvin for a reef tank. Also...how old are the bulbs? If they are close to a year, you will need to change them anyway. Bulbs change spectrum as they age, and may cause nuisance algaes to grow in your tank.

I run nothing but T5's and would recommend more blue bulbs than white unless you are going to have mainly SPS. I have seen many LPS/mushrooms/zoos bleach out under T5's. They are quite powerful. Other than that -- Enjoy! T5's are great!

I'd change all and it's up to what you have and what you like(some like it bluer and some like it whiter!).I like mine whiter(I have half T5HO days and half Actinic with moons too).
