Luminarc reflector "spread"

Getting ready to fire up my frag tanks. I have 3 tubs that are 50x30, and one SPS tank that will be 48x36. All are 12" deep

Questions:

Would a 400watt MH bulb cover the spread of the tub sufficently if hung up high? It's a 400 watter, so I can't get it to close. I could of course run 150's or something down low, but no doubt I would need 2 per tank. If I could run the 400 up higher but cover the entire tub with one bulb.....

I will be running the luminarc reflectors (or a DIY equivalent) Seeing as though they are 100 each, I would save $400 if I only needed one per tank.

Whatcha think? Set one up and measure with a PAR meter? The 3 tubs will be for Rics/zoos/leathers. The SPS tank will be a separate system

will these be a BB frag tank? have you looked into getting a track and lining all of the tanks together end on end and just running one light back and forth the whole day? then you just have one light.

i would not do a 400w. i would prolly do a 250w and have it mounted on a track.

I never thought of the track idea..... Softies/zoos will have a shallow SB, dirty system, etc.. SPS system will be stand alone, BB/high flow, etc..

I need to look at the track thing....

Are you talking have the light move slow enough over the span that the tanks would be on different light cycles? (ie: track moves in a 24 hour period from one side and then back?)
Or just something that oscillates back and forth throughout the day?
