Looking for a little lighting advice

I am looking for some thoughts about how far above my tank I should have my lights. I have a 90 with 2 250 watt 1200k single ended bulbs from Reeflux. There are 2 96 watt atinic power compacts in the canopy also.
Thanks

I have heard 6-8" above the water - but I think it depends on what type and how much substrate if any

Someone more knowledgeable should be around soon

My Coralife Aqualight Pro fixture is 6" above the water level. If I did not have it placed into my canopy, then the stock legs on it would place it 5" above the water line.

It might not be the perfect position, but it has worked well for me.

Thanks. I have my lights at 9 inches above the water level. I thought they might be to low because every Monti i set in there turns white and dies. I thought I might have the lights to low but it must be something else.
Thanks for the help

Where are you starting them out in the tank? You may want to start them near the bottom and then slowly bring them higher as they keep their color. If you start seeing them lose color then lower them again. You neve know what kind of lighting they were under before and it may take them a while to adjust to what you are putting them under.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Aquawolf. I have been starting them out about the middle of the 90 and moving them up a little every third or forth day. When I get the courage to try another one i will be more patient and move them up slower. Thanks again. GO COCKS

Sorry, but I don't partake in that. I am not a Clemson fan either. I went to The Citadel, and let's just say we really don't have a football team to speak of.

Good luck with the next time you get a new cap. I had some problems keeping them in the past myself and am hoping for better results the next time as well.
