lighting for a hex

I have a few questions. I have a 55 gallon Hex and i'm unsure which lighting to use... Now I just bought a T5 TEK Retro, to add to my canopy, because someone recommend it to me. But after doing a little bit of research, I found maybe thats not the best thing. First off, I was considering not using my canopy, since it would cut ventilation. Second, if I used this set up, I would want to get something for nighttime usage, any suggestions? Third, what if later on I wanted to add some sps corals, then I wouldnt have the lighting requirements, so would I just add another T5?

Instead i'm considering just exchanging it for an outer orbit lighting, maybe a 24" one, I was told the legs do adjust on the length, so I might be fine adding it too my hex? I like the 24-hour lighting cycle and the fact its fan cooled. But now I come across the Sunpod, so I'm not sure what to get ... Any advise, will be helpful. Thank you.

I put a Viper clamp on metal halide on my hex. Looks great on the tank. Leaves the top open for outgassing. Enough light for all types of corals. And the "shimmering" is awesome. This is a very tough tank to find a fixture for. Only drawback was no lunars. I went to Walmart and bought a 3 spotlight blue led set for $6, hooked it up to a 12v transformer, and wiretied them to the mounting arm. Excellent, and you can aim them any way you desire.

Hope this helps, Quarreler

PS. shame you are so far away, I have 3 different halide fixtures, The viper,(just moved reef to my 70g last Tuesday) and 2 20" 175w MH/36w actinic/2 lunars/2 fans with long mounting legs that would probably fit the hex. I want to sell but shipping the ballasts coast to coast would not be worth it to you.
