Lighting an Oceanic Systems Biocube 29g

Hey all,

I have the 29g Oceanic Biocube and am setting up a sps, lps reef system. I want to be able to host some clams and torch coral and various polyps. What I want to know is this:

Is the lighting that came with the unit sufficient? Or do I need to retrofit for better lighting?

The hard part is I don't know what exactly is in it right now because I can't find the paperwork. I know stupid me, but being new to the hobby I didn't realize how important that info was when I started. If anybody can find any info on this tank and give me some advice I would really appreciate it.

The tank currently is lightly stocked with:

40lbs Tonga Live Rock
25 hermit crabs (red and blue leg mix)
30 snails (astreas, nassarius, and margarita mix)
Tonga Fighting Conch
Emerald Crab
2 Maroon Clownfish
1 Xenia (really suffering)
2 Zooanthid frags (tiny)
2 Button Polyp Rocks (all hitchhikers)
1 Orange Ricordia (2 polyps)
1 Unidentified Urchin (might be pencil or black spiny but VERY juvenile) another hitchhiker
1 Unidentified Hairy Crab (hitchhiker)
1 Unidentified flippin tiny blue/white crab (hitchhiker)

Thanks all

Gil

I think it just comes with some simple fluorescent bulbs. Could you get a picture of your lights?

I'd probably recommend a simple 150W Metal Halide setup for your tank if you really want to boost light output to keep stony corals.

Sure. Thanks I will get a pic and we can go from there. Being a closed top system I was worried Halides might melt the plastic beneath them or burn corals that are placed high.

I'll get a pic though and see what we go to work with.
