I am new, not only the this forum but to saltwater tanks and I was wondering if I have to much light, my brother and I set up 4 39w T5HO bulbs 2 18000k and 2 actinic over my tenecor Living picture they are 36'' long and the tank is only 18'' deep Here is a pic to better understand the tank I have. this pic is before the new lights.

Welcome to TRT! There isn't really too much when it comes to lighting. It really depends on what you want to keep in the tank. Are you planning on sps, lps, softies? Let us know what you are planning. 31" is actually pretty deep, for sps you may not have enough light, unless they are near the top. I've got 6 x 54 in my 75, which is only 20" deep. You have to decide what corals you want, then adjust the amount of time you keep the lights on based on how the corals are doing.

I have to agree with scoop, I have a 400 watt MH over my 58 gallon, and things are doing well

well it has changed since the pics I added more rock the lights and a fission nano skimmer but I cant get it to stop blowing micro bubbles into the tank so I turned it back off. as for what I am planning I want to get a rose bubble, and 2 small ocelaris clowns, and a mandarin and a few other little things like shrimp.
and not to sound to dumb but what do these mean "sps, lps, softies"?

i wouldn't do the Mandarin... unless you get one that is eating frozen food, it won't last long in your tank without a healthy supply of Copepods... and you aren't going to get a big enough supply for them in your tank. BTW...Nice lookin tank!

thanks man, I will keep that in mind. any input as to the type of fish to put in feel free I want to keep the colors bright as possible, my tank is still cycling so it will be about another 2 weeks before I can get anything but the rose bubble and the clowns are first on the list.
