How many t5s for a 120?

6 or 8? With individual reflectors, of course. Its a 48x24 Oceanic tank with twin overflows. The reason I'm asking is because it seems like with 8, 1 or 2 will just be over the overflows. I would like to have the flexibility to do some sps and clams if I want to. Thanks, Phil.

Phil, I would go w/ the 8 vs. 6 for a tank of that depth. It also gives you even more flexibility for bulb choices. They aren't that wide, so w/ 8, 2 won't be hanging over the returns. I have a standard 75 gl and the Tek 8 bulb fixture would cover it w/o hanging over, and you have 6 more inches on the 120. (I only use the 6 bulb on my 75.) The Tek 8 bulb fixture is only 20" wide, it would fit great.

I bought the Oceanic cabinet and canopy to go with it. I don't think I could use the Tek fixture in that canopy could I? There is only 4 or 5 inches of clearance. What I thought I would go with are icecap retros from reefgeek. I don't think I want the overdriven ones though because of bulb light issues and heat issues that I don't want to deal with.

I use 10 x 54 watt T5's over my 240 (48 x 48 x 24). I would say 6 would be great over a 120. You will not be limited to what you can keep under those lights. SPS, clams, etc.

over my 120, same tank, i managed to get 7, on the IceCap retro kit. I do overdrive mine, but i have good airflow and active cooling so my lamp life isnt that much shorter. its all in how you do it lol.

I have 6 over a 75g. I would go 8 over a 120. You will pay a little more up front but have the flexability.
