Help with lighting HQI

I have a hid lamp ballast. Its a MH-175 watt rated 90-260v
Can I run a 150watt HQI bulb instead of a 175 HQI build?
I know some ballast you can't do this. If I did this would it shorten the life of the bulb?

Thanks,

i would not. the bulb might burst, or at least it would kill the bulb very fast.

No you need the correct wattage ballast to match your bulb

wonder if the voltage drops automatically with that ballast when you put a lower wattage bulb on it? Less voltage could mean less wattage
