Congrats on the new lights! I'm not too familiar with T6 lights, can you tell us more about them?

other then the selection is a little slim at the moment the t6's are almost identical to t5's but are less expensieve(new so they are trying to introduce them into market) the 54 watt bulbs have 5000 lumens and a cri of 85. just about every thing about them is the same other then the endcaps and the bulb is a little thicker glass so its a little tougher.

uses the same ballist but i recieved this 4 bulb unti with 3 switches one for moon lights 2 more switches for 2 different sets of 2 lights.

so far these guys are the only ones i can find the HO bulbs if you can find any one else id love to know.

The website is a little misleading I think. They say that T6 is the next generation of T5's but there are some big differences. First, these bulbs are made to fit in T8 and T12 sockets (T5 bulbs have prongs that are set much closer together). Wider spaced sockets mean fewer bulbs that can fit in a hood (one of the advantages of T5 is the ability to cram a bunch of bulbs in). They're output is variable, depending on the ballast used (a 4 ft bulb has an output of between 32-55 watts). I'm not sure, but I doubt a thicker glass translates to longer bulb life (they're claim of better durability probably means they are less likely to break). The bulb selection is very limited (daylight 5000K, full spectrum 5500K, actinic, and cool white 4100K) and does not include a 10,000K bulb which is the most popular "color" in the reef hobby. Finally, there does not appear to be individual parabolic reflectors available (this almost doubles the light output per bulb and is what makes T5's comparable to halides).

I have to admit that the T6 fixture that you got does look good, and should work just fine. There is no "best" lighting IMO, and I am not trying to dis your lights. Anytime people talk about lighting, it's important to point out the differences.

the bulbs are about 25% larger then the t5 and i agree it is a little misleading but that was jsut the site trying to sell their bulbs. but hey for 100$ im happy.

I'm glad you got a good deal on them, they look good! Don't forget to give us a long term report - most of us aren't familiar with T6 and would appreciate the info.

no problem ill try and push the limits ill get a mili in there to see if it works. and ill try a larger maxima or derasa(lol did i ocme close to spelling that right).
but so far the colt i had under the 250 10k is happy and blooming daily and looking pretty good aside from the lack of neutriants in the water atm.
