400W SE bulbs. blueline elec. ballast

Ok, my eyes are crossed from all the posts I've been reading about lighting and SPS. I've seen some really good posts and websites with pictures of 250W bulbs, can't find pictures of 400W. But it gives me an idea what the different K look like with different brands.

Where do you buy your bulbs from? I'm afraid of getting used from ebay. Things i've read....Iwaski 6500K are great growth but bad color. http://cnidarianreef.com/ looked at the 250W pictures on this site

in 400w version the Iwasaki's are pretty yellow. they are not that yellow in the 250w version. a good bulb in the 400w range is the XM 10K. this is what i ran when i ran 400's.

I was thinking about the hamilton 14K or the reeflux 12K.

do you have PAR ratings for those bulbs? with 400w bulbs PAR ratings are not that big of a deal, but good to know. when using 400w on a tank of your depth it really is just a matter of personal taste in colour.

the reeflux 400w 10k are a blue white. They are the best bulbs I have ever used. You can see photos of them here http://thereeftank.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73095

The color output of the bulb depends on the ballast you will run them on. I use PFO's

Note: only the center is a 400w the left/right are 250's

that is what I've come to the conclusion of also. personal taste in color with the 400W. But does that mean I can get by with the brands sold on ebay for $30? or do I need to stay with the main brand names. I don't want to loose my acropora by being cheap.

you have to be carefull when changing bulbs regardless of where they came from. i have bleached many a coral by switching between bulbs. this is why i would recommend finding out the PAR rating for a particular bulb. if it is a lot different than the bulb you are using now, you will need to adapt the lighting accordingly. if it produces more PAR, then lower the lighting period. if it produces less PAR you are prolly ok with the way you are running the lighting cycle already.

the two bulbs on the end came with the light and he said they were blueline 10k, the one in the middle I bought and it is an xm 10K.
