2 questions please ...

I have 2 questions:
I have a 46 bowfront lit with the twin 96W coralife lunar aqualight and I spend $75ish for a set of 10,000k/6800k and 460/420nm lamps every 6 months or so and the tank is noticably darker by then.

Economicaly, it looks like icecap T5's are the way to go with cheaper bulbs and longer life.

1. Can/should I just change the guts of my aqualight over to T5's?
2. Do I need a 2 bulb T5 or a 4 Bulb or some other count?

Thanks!
Berg

4 bulbs at least for sps and many lps. If you are just keeping some softies and zoas, mushrooms, etc then 2 bulbs is enough.

I'm not sure you can just change the guts over to t5, it will require new wiring, new ballast, new end caps. If you are handy, you can do a retrofit, otherwise getting a brand new fixture would be the way to go.

its got mushrooms, leather finger, button polyps etc. I don't have a need for the tougher things at the moment (at least not till I know what they look like and how to keep them) . I do have a yearning for a clam and a 6' tank ... But no walls with 6' of space.

Don't know what you mean test?but if your doing a reef.I'd do 4 T5HO's with the individual reflectors.but depending how deep and what you want to keep, you mite need Mh.Good luck with your "test" set-up.

Sorry man ... I typed the whole response above but could not get my new phone to push the "post" button. I used "test" till I figured it out, then edited it back to what it should be. Its not a test ... Its my main and only tank ... Looking too dark I think and too expensive to change bulbs that often.

To answer the other post, I'm extremely handy ... A factory machine designer/builder.

T5HO are cheeper, run cooler, more light output and last longer and take up less room.
