Question

Skimmers

Ok.. This skimmer that came with the system basicly stinks.. I adjust it daily to get it to produce anything now.

So I'm lookin to replace it already with an external skimmer that I can set beside the tank on a stand. Would pull from the sump and prolly return to sump?
Running with 140ish gallons counting refugium.

Any suggestions? I dont want to have to refinance the house, but then again I don't want to have to buy another one later.

MRC MR-2.

Excellent quality; not horribly expensive, but not all that cheap either.

I plan on running an MR-2 or MR-3 on the up and coming 180.

Looks like he has the MR-2 with a genX 55 for $439. Is that a good pump?

Yeah, if your good at DIY, building your own is a good idea. Check out the DIY forum.

I'd like to build a skimmer out of acrylic, but I would have to order all the acrylic where I have to order a minimum amount; which ends up being around $600. Some day I will.

Have you tried McMaster Carr for acrylic?

Been researching the diy skimmers. Not experienced enough to feel comfortable building one unless I knew it would work well. And of course a good set of plans.
At this point I'm leaning toward the MR-2. and set it up on a shelf next to the tank.

Sweet, they have a little better prices, plus no minimum order length on tubing. I was pricing off of www.usplastics.com

The Geoff skimmer works quite well, the only downside is that it is pretty large.

You need one hell of a pump to get a becketts to work properly. Send me the link on your skimmer. I am sure there's a way to mod it to make it work better.

Well I can't find any links on this jewel in english except on ebay so here it is.
http://cgi.ebay.com/75-gallon-skimme...QQcmdZViewItem

I'm thinking this thing isnt worth the plastic its made out of personaly...
I have to do something soon. Just having a hard time deciding which way to go. The sump is too small to put a larger skimmer in, so whatever i do, its either mod this thing or go external.
