Yet another use for duct tape.....
I was working in the attic this afternoon and came across a need for duct tape that I've never used it for.
I fixed a tear in one of my ducts!

Greg you will get a kick out of this. A few years ago I was working in a school installing windows. It was the middle of summer and the kids and staff were away for vacation. Part of the project involved tearing out the old windows and a lead abatement crew was doing the work ahead of us. The summer heat was in full force and the guys doing the lead abatement were sweating like mad in their Tyvek suits ( white, paper-like one piece suits that keep the lead paint and dust off of them). It was so hot some of them didn't wear clothes under the suits! Well you can imagine the sight when the suits got so wet from sweat,..... aaaa ... lets just say that it was sorta like a full body wet tee shirt contest LOL. When they realized what was happening the took some duck tape and fashioned a thong- like thing to cover up. Another great use for duct tape LOL

Well, at least they had paper under the tape. That mighta smarted just a tad on removal.
Greg, the one time I actually needed duct tape for a duct, I'd run out by using it on other stuff!

Guess what I found out this weekend?
Duck tape came first, and it's use on duct's was a later benefit. I had no idea. Check it out. This site has the best history, although I checked it out and the story is true.

Heheheh Cath, I guess you are somewhat vindicated tho as usual it's military origins that leaked over into the civilian market.
I suspect that it may have patched holes in Ducks
http://my.voyager.net/~dukw/dukwpage.htm
In my era it was often used to patch pesky holes in helos
