Yeah It Works!!

I just wanted to share a story about my diabetes and maybe it will help someone else who deals with this disease!

When I was diagnosed with this disease about 7 years ago, I was in a big denial trip pretty much every since. I have a family history of this disease. Unfortunately I have made a few trips to the hospital because of sugars out of control and wounds on my right leg! My two surgeries on my arm pits which kept me out of work for 61/2 months was a gland disease which is another complication from diabetes!

I went in to see my doctor about a month ago and was in a depression state of mind and told him I was killing myself. I told him I wanted to be put in the hospital and he put me in right away. I could not even take the car back to get Pat.

The doc got my sugars under control as they were in the 400 range! It took seven days in the hospital to accomplish this and to heal a small wound on my leg!

He told me I should seriously think about attending diabetes classes at the hospital and told him I could not afford the classes or buy a new monitor to keep track of my sugars. I for some reason decided to go to the classes and the hospital gave me the classes free and a new monitor!! I was really surprised!

I found out what a three month reading of my sugars really meant at these classes. My last test was 11.1 which means my averaged sugar reading was 270 for three months! I could not believe it! That opened my eyes just a little!

For normal people your sugar reading usually fall in the range of 80-120. I have two more classes to go and I will be done with them. I have learned how carbos really raise my sugars level and now know how to balance them out over the coarse of the day and am eating healthy foods(2/3 greens-1/3meat).

Results:
1. I feel alot better
2. I have alot more energy
3. Less problems with my organs, etc.
4. I have lost 23lbs!
5. Alot better attitude and wife is much happier!!
6. I have not had to take Humalog which is a fast acting insulin for awhile now. I still take Humalin N which is a long lasting insulin.
7. I have been able to reduce the amount of insulin!!

My sugar readings for the last 41 readings are as follows:
64, 89, 97, 104, 83, 143, 60, 104, 103, 88, 105, 85, 82, 101, 89, 96, 88, 104, 101, 96, 81, 87, 88, 118, 98, 105, 99, 89, 80, 70, 85, 86, 75, 68, 91, 97, 89, 90, 86 and this morning 92.

Any diabetic can do this as you need to remain focused, believe in yourself and take care of yourself, and most of all do it for yourself!

There is a better way of life and I am willing to help anybody who needs to have support. Just PM me!!

Thanks for reading this and it helps me!!

Johnny;

I'm so glad that you are on an upswing. You're treating yourself right and feeling good is the pay-off! What a difference a healthy body makes on your mental state. (I won't say you're of sound mind...you're a reefer, after all! )

Talking

Way to go Johnny, your readings that you posted look very good.
I use to work in the med field and can recognize a good fbs level when I see one.
Keep up the good dieting (as your weight falls you'll need less insulin), good monitoring and lovin life.
You got friends here to help.

That's WONDERFUL, Johnny! I'm so happy to hear that they gave you the opportunity to learn how to manage your system yourself, and that you are now reaping the benefits!

Way to go!

Johnny,
sounds great. Being a veterinarian I have seen the benefits that diet can make on a diabetic (especially cats). Since animals don't really have a choice what they get fed, when we restrict amount and type of carbs and treat the glucose toxicity, we see amazing results.
Do you test your fructosamine levels? We are starting to do that frequently but I don't know if that is a veterinary specific test or if it is used in people.
