XP/WinMedia gurus
Help, I recently got new puter, windows XP and have ripped a bunch of my CDs to the hard drive(wma files , variable bit rate) when I go to my music and open the file and start songs they play fine, if I log onto the net(dialup) that song will play fine but when the next song starts it plays at like half speed.
Any ideas whats going on?

not positive doug, but if it is doing this when you log in to the net , then the media player is trying to get info on the music from the net at the same time.
you can look in the options of that media player to see if is set for the look up...

Ya, its trying to do that, because the firewall asks if it has permission
So how can I "fix" it?

you have to open the media player and go into the options / pref. and look for something that says.. look up info..or anything that says it can connect to the internet..

Google it, Doug. You'll find plenty of BB's for Windblows problems.

Check out www.goldwave.com for ripping discs, you can rip the songs as mp3s which, IMO, are a lot better than wmas. You can also convert your files to mp3s with winamp.
I like winamp for playing music files, might want to check that out too.

DOug they sorta hide it. when you open the player ( make sure it is the full size player not the skin). in the upper left is a little button this willopen a small pull down . you will find the options there.

Tim this is what I found, once I open media player it automatically tries to go on line and search info. the fire wall opops up a window asking if I want it to, even if I click deny the query hangs there and I suspect thats the root of the problem

have you clicked remeber this on the firewall pop up?
you will still have to go into the media player to tell it to stop.
another way ( possible) is to open the firewall and look at programs that access the internet. on mine ( zonealarm) i can give it a red x and it is not allowed to access ever.
