X-Box online

My son wants to play X-box online but the X-box is not in the same room that his computer is in. Currently we have two computers in the same room using a combination modem/router (not wireless). Can someone tell me what he would have to purchase and basically how it would need to be wired up?

Thanks

I would say just switch to a wireless router or have him use like a Belkin USB portable setup that works with the other piece plugged into your regular hub. I think those are maybe 25 bucks or something at Staples, and I have the setup like that for my work laptop when I use it at home.

Yep, it's to the point that a USB wireless adapter is cheaper than hardwiring.

Actually after I was thinking, how long of cable do you think you would need?

You can find a good quality 25' network cable locally for under $20.

Cable is not an option.

To go wireless would I have to replace my current modem/router?

Nope, you just buy the set which is a USB adapter for the X Box and a little transmitter receiver dealy that plugs into one of the ports in your router. Staples or Office Depot or Comp USA will hook you right up. I assume you have four ports or so in your router. Just plug the one part into one of them.

Ok like any problem solving thing here on TRT we need pics of your modem and router.

So running a cable from the router to the xbox is not an option?

Then i do like perry is saying it would be two devices total one your plug into your router(providing you have a 4 port switch on it) and the other would plug into your xbox.

But some pics of your setup would be helpful
