winblows Vista vrs. CD/DVD-RW
my kids have a relativly new HP tower with Vista installed
the problem is the CD/DVD-RW player won't read CD's
not really a problem untill they got an Ipod and tried to load the CD's into the computer
anyone have any tips to help out
or am I stuck calling HP
or do I just get a CD drive and intall it into the open slot
or do I tell them to deal with it and only let them install the pre-loaded music from the computer onto the Ipod
and tell them to happy they have such a nice toy

I thought I had read that that was an issue with some versions of Vista not wanting to copy copyrighted music or something like that

do you know what kind of cd driver you have?
I know HP made your computer but someone else probably made you cd drive.
go to your device manager and see exactly what kind of drive you have.
Do a google on it
Go to the manufactor website of the cd drive
Im sure there is a vista update
Download the new drivers and you should be good to go.
also it wont hurt to go to the HP website and download all updates
and go to windows update and update everything.
this will resolve the problem like 90 % of the time
if not then you have a bad drive and you need to call tech support
