Didn't do any good though, Doug. When you were in high school they hadn't invented cars yet!!

It was down to 1.95 in the deep burbs of the ATL a couple of weeks ago (deeper burbs than where I am). It was 1.99 here, then it popped back up to 2.05 and now sitting at $2.09 for regular.

I liked when it was 82 cents the first year I moved here. Cost me $18.50 to fill the tank when I bought my truck. Most it's ever cost me to fill from vapours was $76

another big price factor is transportation. many western states have to have all the gas trucked in whereas much of the east actually has pipelines pumping the gas in.

otherwise it is taxes for sure.

You'd think that would be part of the problem, BUT there are SEVERAL refineries in California. You can see many right off 405 in So Cal and Chevron has a HUGE refinery in Benecia in Nor Cal. (It was just on the news for having an explosion BTW). There are oil rigs all over the coast of California as well as oilfriends and refineries around Bakersfield. Some of the most expensive gas I ever saw in CA was at a station with the Chevron refinery in view of it.

California's biggest problems with fuel prices are fuel tax and special blends I believe.

When I was in college (which was not that long ago - maybe '96) I remember paying $.91 for gas in Syracuse...I can't believe how much it has gone up!
