what's yer best concert story?
i love going to concerts. i've not been to a *whole* lot, but i have an place in my heart for each one...and it's so hard to tell which show was my favorite ever, so i'll just tell 'em all....
i'm in a typing mood, and there's no place to vent like margaritaville, so here goes...my list of concerts...
r.e.m. (june 1995)...as they were my favorite band, i saved my first concert for them (too bad too, cos i *coulda* seen the violent femmes)
i had my first baby about 2 weeks before the show..i was fat & moody & the show STUNK...
they might be giants (fall 1996) this was weird. the show was at a local bar & i wasn't of age. i decided to go by when they were doing sound check & stuff before the show to see if they'd sign my CD...they not only signed it, but when i told them i was only 18 & couldn't go in to see the show, they put me on the guestlist! but it didn't matter, the stupid bar *still* wouldn't let me in. but they let me watch thru the inside door..big whoop. but very sweet, those two guys named john..and i got some pics someplace of me all buddy buddy with them...
lenny kravitz (fall 1996) weird. it was h.o.r.d.e. fest & i was partying in the parking lot all day long...the only show on the list i wanted to see was lenny, so i ran in when he came on..in the sea of people, i found my best friend from junior high! WHAT LUCK! but then she got mad 'cos of so much partying i had done in the parking lot... WHOOPS!
then i went a long time with no concerts......
jeff beck (feb. 2001) my god this guy is AMAZING! i cried my eyes out just watching him pluck that guitar like no tomorrow...the sounds he made come oputta that thing...whoosh..can't explain it..he used to play in a band called the yardbirds..(you know, "for your love") i have no idea why this guy isn't more famous...it's like he's always been on the brink..played with rod stewart, might as well have been in led zepplin...*sigh* sorry, tangent....
john entwhistle band (may 2001) this dude is the bass player for the who. he's awesome, but very, very loud. i honestly couldn't hear for three days after seeing him. his drummer was major....he played with one hand to show off, and was more kicking than any other drummer i ever saw play with both hands...
ween (october 2001) wow. all i have to say is WHY IS THIS BAND NOT MORE FAMOUS THAN ANYONE? they were so rocking...and they did van halen's hot for teacher for an encore, note for note...if you download the mp3 of "ween live portland maine hot for teacher", you can actually hear me screaming! WHOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo i'm famous!
bob dylan (december 2001) this was awesome. i was grumpy 'cos i worked a 9 hour shift on my feet all day, and it was standing room only when we got there, and he played for like 3 or 4 hours, with like 6 enores, and my feet kept going "SIT DOWN ALREADY!"... but man, just to look at the stage & say to yerself "oh my god, that's bob FREEKING dylan!" was worth it.
upcoming shows i plan on attending....
this saturday jonathan richman is playing up the street...he rocks. used to be in a band called "the modern lovers" they were like the first punk band ever, he studied under lou reed...rawkin'! he's not punk anymore, but a very cool dude...if you've seen the movie "kingpin" he's playing in the bar scene....
and in july willie nelson will be here, i really hope i can go to that.....how could i NOT??????
so...anyone else like concerts?? any good stories??

Haha! Do you guys have designated drivers tonight?
Seen alot - loved going to the Grateful Dead at Cal Expo Ampitheater in Sacramento, every year for five years (89-93 I think, tough to recall),- but my concert going days were mostly rock and roll. Iron Maiden, Def Leopard, Megadeth, Dio, etc...
Not a concert, but recently I got to sit in with Bhagavan Das, while he played and sang with a small group (about 30 of us). If you know who he is then you'll know it was a treat.
Most memorable moment? Watching a bumblebee chase Dolly Parton across the stage while she tried to run away and sing at the same time. Let's just say she was literally 'bouncing' across the stage...

One of my customers is a rock legend. It's numbing to see all of the gold and platinum albums all over the walls.

Saw the Grateful Dead in the Omni in Atlanta in '89. The place was breathing
Saw Motorhead and Alice Cooper. Slept thru "Ace of Spades"
Dokken, Judas Priest.
My first "concert" was the Whos last live show. It was on the Radio live. I listened and taped the whole thing. I was in Jr High at the time. I wore that tape out.
All thats behind me now.

livin in austin..... the live music capital of the world....... has me spoiled rotten on concerts! we have 3 main concert venues in the area, that hold a few thousand ppl. and then the local club scene which hold upto 100 to 500ppl.
i've got to see peter frampton perform live, standing about 10- 15 feet away at stubb's b-b-q, not to mention ray charles, robert cray, jimmie vuaghn, van halen, fabulous thunderbirds, tom petty, boss hog, ganja din, da-vid garcia, willie nelson, meat puppets, fydolla ho, juniour, patty griffin, george clinton, toni price, stone temple pilots, vellejo, blues traveler, b*tth*l* surfers, joan jett, push monkeys, big head todd, black crows, eric johnson and alien love child, guy forsythe, patti griffith, ryan adams and alyaniss morisette. i'm getting tool tickets today......
yep, small venues rule in my book, and to date, watching peter frampton perform live is my most highlighted concert experience, listening to toni price (our local artist) perform for the first time really turned me onto the local scene here. austin is very rich in music. not to mention sxsw festival!
rock on!

Ok I went to one concert way back when! It was the "THREE DOG NIGHT" concert! It was an outstanding show and lots of weed being used up! When the lights went out it looked like fire flies going up and down the aisles and people were passing out and getting drunk and stoned of coarse!
When the lights came back on there was a large blue cloud near the ceiling and ex-wife could not figure out why she was laughing so much! Never will forget that concert! Johnny
