What happens on a BMX Bike????

Ok, so about a month ago my son is hinting that he needs a new bike, and he had helped me quite a bit on a big job, so I took him to a Giant toy store and told him to pick out whatever he liked. He picked out a Mongoose BMX bike for around $150 and has been a happy clam ever since.....until...

Last week he said he needed a new tire. I look and his tire is worn to the cords! In one month???? So he buys a tire and tube...all is well...

The NEXT DAY he comes in with the rim and it's broken in TWO!!!! I ask what he was doing and he says "Nothin". So I took him to a bike shop last night to replace the rim.....

Rim...new sprocket...etc...$75!!! Hold on here!!! I ask the Bike expert what's going on and it appears that his bike is not designed for what Rew is putting it through.....

$400 later Rew rode out a NEW BMX bike! Mind you...all this in a frame of around 6 weeks...ugh

PS...He IS a good kid

Butch, the bike not happen to be a HARO? My brother in-law(13) got one for x-mas was almost 600.00 out the door[bike in bottom pic]. I know I had an elf that was about 1500.00 when I was 15.

Kids these days are harder on bike then we were jumping wooden ramps and curbs. Today they have bike parks with rails, ramps, bowls and pipelines. These kids take their bike to the moon compaired to when we were their age.

Your a great parent for buying your son that bike, maybe he will be our next Tony Hawk or Colin Mackay!

Nice work butch. If hes going to be pushing it at least he should be breaking his bones becasue he falls and not becasue his equipment collapsed underneath him. ; ) Its much more reasonable that way IMO.
