I pretend to be executive chef of a independant restaraunt here in Lansing MI. When I'm not in my office playing here (slacking) I mostly walk around the building with coffe mug in hand yelling at "slackers" JK, it's hard work, I put in between 55-65 hours a week. We change our menu seasonally, and now have morphed into a medium grade "chop-house". If anyone is ever near the Lansing area, please let me know, I've got a 20oz prime grade Certified Angus New York Strip with a side of crab stuffed shrimp with your name on it!

...it's not just a job...
I'm an 18 year Naval Officer currently stationed here in the Puget Sound area. I enlisted in 1984 and for 9 years was an Electronic Warfare Technician. In 1993 I fell through the cracks and earned a commission as an officer and became a logistician/business manager for the Navy...we call them Supply Corps Officers. Among the many jobs I've had over the years and around the world, I am currently Director of Contracting and Procurement for all small contracts (under $100K each) for most of the Puget Sound region. Not the most exciting billet I have ever had....but it pays for golf and aquaria. I will be retiring from the Navy in 2004 and moving on to something completely different where I no longer have to lead, be responsible for, or babysit other adults....at least, that is my hope.
Later.
Mike

Application Developer here. I work for a company that does online advertising, pop up and banner ads (don't hate the player - hate the game). I am NOT the person responsible for all those annoying popups and email spams - I just tell the advertisers how many ppl respond. BTW, you can disable javascript popups through preferences in most browsers (I do, I hate those things )

Thanks for the info, Buddha! I'll give that a try here at work.
My education is in classical music. But I work in the public library here in Spartanburg. I work in Reader's advisory in Fiction, New Books, and AV materials. What that means is, I help people find something good to read, listen to, watch, etc. And if they need a change, I find something like that too.
WE also see to the AV needs of folks that use the library. That might be a portable PC and projection system, document camera, mikes, etc.
See how my music education helped?? hehehe... Actually, I do use it a lot. Folks often come in and ask (or sing) a tune, and we find it for them.

My job title does not say much about what I do for a living. I am a research analyst for the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Kansas Medical Center. I am responsible for the design and maintenance of the databases that we use for our research projects. I also do hardware and software support for all of the computers in our department, including a VPN (Virtual Private Network) server at and off site location. Much of our research is in the areas of cancer prevention, healthy diets, and smoking cessation.

My degree is in Elementary Education (BSU), and I've been teaching on and off since 1974 - homeschooled our boys for a few years while living in Louisiana - and most recently was Dipstick's (AKA Drew) 5th grade teacher. I was there for 6 years, the first 4 as a computer tech/trouble-shooter, h/w and s/w installer, plus taught the teachers how to use the various applications and how to use the network, Internet, email, and such. Also taught small groups of students who in turn could teach others.
With my school being a 45-50-minute drive one way on good days, I finally, at the urging of my husband, resigned in July this summer. It was pretty hard to be the kind of teacher I am and live so far from school...So, I tutor locally and do my video production work full time at home. Yes, I miss the kids!
My husband is in his 30th year of teaching high school!

I'm a second year medical student at the University of Kansas Medical Center, so I don't make a living at all - just take out more loans and accrue more debt. (That's the MD program after all: Massive Debt.) I also mooch off my husband, the research analyst mentioned above. My "job description" changes daily: right now, it's a lot of pathology and immunology, with the occasional real patient thrown in for spice (It might be an autopsy, but hey, it's better than a book!) I have dual bachelor degrees in microbiology and human biology, and I should probably be studying rather than spending time here reading about how everyone affords this hobby...
I am also breeding Banggai Cardinals on the side (which is how I support my addiction.)
